Take the AP Challenge

Sherwood students are highly encouraged to challenge themselves by taking AP classes, as well as exploring new extracurricular activities. Taking AP classes allow students to increase knowledge in certain areas. Before taking an AP class, however, students must understand the amount of work that will be given, the level of difficulty, and the amount of time needed. This will ensure students are prepared and can succeed while taking rigorous courses. College-bound students in high school should prioritize taking APs that are beneficial for the future rather than just to take them.

Students are encouraged to take AP classes as it will help with college applications, the possibility of earning college credit, and the opportunity to gain more knowledge. Colleges want to see that students are taking the highest level classes offered. Students must also understand that just because the course is a college level class does not mean one is exempt from taking the class again. Even scoring a 4 or 5 on the exam may not excuse a student from having to retake a course. That said, retaking the course in college may advance students’ knowledge in the subject as students use prior information as a foundation. Also, scoring well on the exam may increase the chance of earning a scholarship. AP classes allow students to learn more as AP includes more material than honors, not to mention students are surrounded by others who also take education seriously.
