During this time of great stress and loss for the Class of 2020, John Krasinki has made it his goal to help make seniors feel included in what they are missing.
Krasinski, best known for his role on NBC’s “The Office” as Jim Halpert, has become popular with a new set of fans due to his weekly news show “Some Good News.” As a part of “Some Good News” he has made it his goal to lift the spirits of those around the world. In an effort to do so he has made it a priority to ensure that the Class of 2020 is celebrated for their accomplishments. On April 19 Krasinski hosted his first of two events to celebrate the graduating class, “SGN’s: Prom 2020.”
In this celebration Krasinski invited his friends and fellow artists to perform and celebrate with the graduating class. Some of his guests included Chance The Rapper, Billie Eilish, The Jonas Brothers, and his “The Office” co-star Rainn Wilson. The celebration also showcased many graduating seniors in their own at-home style proms.
When concluding his virtual prom, Krasiski had this to say to the graduating class, “This is a very very weird time. But each and every one of you are missing something, and this is the least I can do and I couldn’t be more proud to do it.”
Krasinki wasn’t done with celebrating the Class of 2020 after his prom, though, and he then decided to take another step and host a virtual graduation ceremony on May 8.
Like his virtual prom, Krasinski invited more of his friends to show respect to the graduating class. The guests this time were there to give advice to the seniors and answer questions as to what now. Guests included: Steven Speilberg, Oprah Winfrey, John Stewart and fellow Class of 2020 graduate Malala Yousafzai.
In his commencement speech Speilberg had this to say, “One of the things this moment is teaching us is that truly anything is possible, It will be imagination and innovation that gets us all to the other side. I know this is a time of huge loss, but it’s also a chance to dream big about our futures together, and your generation has something important to say.”
In a time of separation and loss, Krasinski has managed to unify people and keep their spirits high in much appreciated acts of kindness–truly living up to its name and offering “Some Good News” to young adult who are losing their senior year celebrations.
