“Neon Night” Coming to Olney
By Chase Wilson ’17
Free Chipotle and an opportunity to win Ed Sheeran tickets are enough to interest most teenagers, but add a rave, massive four-way tug-of-wars and 100 lbs of Color Run Powder Paint, and Neon Nights sounds like an irresistible daydream. The event is taking place at Emory Oakdale United Methodist Church on September thirteenth, starting at 6p.m. and ending at 10p.m. Admission is free and there will be a limited supply of catered Chipotle, Rita’s and Chick-fil-a, along with other barbeque foods. 707 Oakdale along with 707 Dance Rave are the groups promoting, designing and setting up Neon Night.
The night will begin with a block party barbeque stocked with free food and beverages. After the participants eat, they will be divided into four different teams and pitted against each other in some unique activities like tug-of-war battles and a Beach Ball Skirmish. There will be an inflatable garden, Giant Jenga, a selfie booth and Cornhole as well. Color Run Powder Paint will be distributed to the teams to throw at each other in what is being called a Paint Splatter Battle, so wearing white is a must. An extra pair of clothes is recommended, but whatever attendees wear, be prepared to get wet. Keep in mind that no bags or backpacks, outside food or drinks or re-fillable water bottles are allowed in the event.
The party will move into the church after the barbeque. The group will be ushered into a rave, or dance party, featuring the local DJ Topedo from Towson and Pro-Stage lighting sponsored by 707 Dance Rave, the organization planning Neon Night. For the next hour, there will be crowd surf racing, giveaways and more. At the end of the event, the winner of the Ed Sheeran tickets will be announced. However, in order to be eligible for the tickets, those who attend must register beforehand and be present at the conclusion of the night to redeem them. To register, visit 707oakdale.com. Registering more than once will not affect your chances to win.
