First-Round Exit After Season To Build On
On Thursday February 27, the girls’ basketball team played Blake in the first playoff game, losing 67-56.
“Because we lost to them [Blake] two times in the regular season, we didn’t want to let them beat us for a third time. We prepared for them a lot and we knew we had a very good chance to beat them but we didn’t,” said junior Nicole Stockinger. “We came out strong and played well throughout the game but Merb [Marybeth Bidwick ‘14] got in foul trouble and late in the game I rolled my ankle so I was out for the third quarter. We lost a lot towards the end of the game.”
In spite of the disappointment in the playoffs, the Warrior were a competitive team throughout the regular season in which they finished 9-11. In their final six games, the Warriors went 4-2, beating Springbrook 54-42, Wheaton 67-28, Quince Orchard 66-50 and Rockville 60-37. The Warriors lost to Gaithersburg 50-27 and Magruder 52-40.
“I think the team worked well together this year compared to last year. We had a lot of team brunches so the team got a long better this year too,” said sophomore Taylor Andrews. “The new coach ran practices more smoothly and gave the team good pep talks. He was a lot more personable and had us watch film on other teams to see their tactics and of ourselves to see what we need to work on.”
