The boys’ soccer team finished the regular season with a winning record of 7-4-1. The Warrior earned first seed in playoffs which meant they got to play at home. Coach Mike Kogok saw this as an advantage which was proven after the first playoff game on October 28. The team played Springbrook and won 2-1 in overtime, sudden death.

“The team as met my expectations for sure. Montgomery County soccer is very competitive and a winning regular season is not easy. I am pleased with the way they have worked hard all season,” said Kogok. “Playoff[s] is not a whole lot different than regular season; there is a higher sense of urgency though since if you lose your season is over.”

Unfortunately, the home advantage wasn’t good enough, and on October 30 the Warriors lost in the third round to Howard 1-0. Kogok thinks the team didn’t play smart enough or hard enough after. Howard got an early goal and hung on. In the second half, the Warriors picked up their effort level but were unlucky not to tie up the score.

“It was a tough loss and very unlucky and disappointing way to finish the season. We were pressing them hard in the second half and had opportunities but just couldn’t punch the ball in,” said junior Shervin Kashani.
