An Amazing Four Years
By Alec Perez ’14
One thing that I will miss dearly after high school is football. Of course I won’t miss carrying Tyler Beatty, my quarterback since fifth grade, on my back for a 100-yard sprint or colliding head to head with the best center in the county, Dean Emerson. But I will miss singing “How you Remind Me” by Nickelback in the locker room with Willy Wykoff, Koenick and all the boys. And the things I can’t believe we did. The practice when we staged a fake fight to show the coaches that we had grit or sarcastically screamed in the locker room as if we wanted to work out. One thing that kills me is that I will never again get the chance to hear my dad, many of you know him as RP, pump everybody up when he would yell like a madman from the stands. Never again will I will be able to look up into those lights on Friday nights and see all the Warrior fans cheering their hearts out.
Besides sports I have had the chance to participate in other events at Sherwood. This year I decided to participate in Mr. Sherwood, and it is one of the best things I’ve ever done in high school. Now I had never “nae nae’d” before the show but I think the guys and I did a pretty good job for the king of selfies (Abdulai Turay), a bunch of white boys, oh and one of the funniest guys I know Abimbola King. One of the coolest things I was a part of is the famous bathroom party in tenth grade. I remember being lifted into the air by MMA fighter Cal Wilson and crowd surfing.
As I come to the end of this chapter in my life I am thankful. I am thankful for all my teachers and all the students I have had the chance of meeting. But I want to point out a couple people who deeply impacted my high school years. First off, I want to thank one of my best friends, Ari Kirschbaum. He and I have shared so many great memories over the years and it’s going to be tough without him next year by my side. Also, I want to thank Mike Crooks. Not only the best looking guy I know and fellow journalist, but also a man who can eat a whole can of garbanzo beans in a span of 15 seconds. He is a great friend of mine and if I had to choose one guy that everyone should model themselves after, it’s Mikey Cocks. Now I know I didn’t name everybody and I wish I could. Thanking and mentioning everyone that I want to would take up the entire newspaper and I don’t think Mr. Huck would allow that. I’m proud to call myself a Warrior.
