Progress Towards Playoffs

This season the Sherwood boys’ lacrosse team has had a very good run, and they can still push to their full potential and make it far in the playoffs. Losing three games to three very good teams by just one goal, it has been a very frustrating season with a record of 6-8. “Our record probably does not represent the level of talent on the team,” according to Coach Chip Steel.
“Ideally, we would have liked to win more games to get a high seed and home playoff game, but the reality is that we will have to work hard and most likely play on the road on our path to the State Semi-Finals. The games don’t really count until Playoffs…when it’s win or go home,” says Assistant Coach Ryan Burnsky. A large amount of effort is needed from the starting seniors, as well as upcoming juniors that will lead the field next year, that, “need . . . to realize their potential and step into that role. Once that happens, this team will be unstoppable,” according to Burnsky.
Captains have a positive outlook on playoffs for this season, but know that this season the team did not reach its full potential. “We had a tough schedule and we played a lot of very good games. We also had some tough loses but we always seemed to bounce back,” says senior goalie and Co-captain Will Wykoff.
On Wednesday, May 7, Sherwood beat Paint Branch for the second time this season in their first playoff game by a score of 19-5. The next game was scheduled to be Friday, May 9, but had to be rescheduled due to Blake’s prom that same night. The game is now this Saturday, May 10 at Blake at 5 p.m.
