The Ballad of Brian Griffin

For those that aren’t aware, “Family Guy” is about an overweight,  dim-witted, lovable father, Peter, who messes up in everything he does, married to an uptight red-head with a bit of a wild side, Lois. Peter and Lois have three children, Chris, Meg and Stewie. Chris is an overweight teen who is often depicted as a loser, Meg is often the target of the family’s jokes and Stewie is their crazy toddler who tries to take over the world and kill his mom. These wacky characters are the family members of the Griffins.

Another main character is the best friend to Peter and Stewie, Brian Griffin. Brian is the family dog, who has the ability to speak and act like a real human. After almost 14 years Brian was seemingly killed off, which grabbed viewers on a bumpy ride.

The emotional roller coaster that is the cartoon “Family Guy” on FOX is sending viewers on a windy road that they can’t seem to escape. Brian Griffin died from a car accident in November 24 episode, which shocked viewers beyond belief. They also had the nerve to make it seem to be a permanent thing.

It appeared that this was no laughing matter, they even created a dog, Vinny, to take over his role. They even put Vinny in the opening series with the theme song. Vinny was a bit shaky at first, because no one can replace Brian, but viewers began coping with it and accepting Brian as dead. Vinny, the fast talking Italian dog brought a new type of humor to the table.

Just as Vinny was getting started the writers of “Family Guy” created some weird plot twist in which Stewie traveled back in time and saved Brian from the car accident, erasing Vinny from the Griffin’s life as if he never happened. Poor Vinny lost his spotlight after an episode and a half.

Twitter was also embarrassed by this. After Brian died, this social network blew up with the #ripbriangriffin. People were genuinely upset; they had undergone the trauma of the beloved cartoon dog’s death. All types of pictures and pic stitches were made to remember the seemingly dead Brian Griffin. People treated this as if Brian was Nelson Mandela on twitter.

What’s next? Who’s going to die but somehow revived in a later episode? Peter? Stewie?

Viewers of this beloved cartoon can’t handle any more of it, having to be on this emotional rollercoaster without an exit. “Family Guy” made it appear as if one of their main characters were actually dead. Shortly after whisking the tears away from their favorite cartoon character’s death, viewers realized it was all an overreaction.

It’s a good thing to bring Brian back, but it’s hard to do so with all the viewers getting used to him being gone, and getting accustomed to the new dog Vinny. Since Brian isn’t dead anymore, all there is to say is RIP Vinny Griffin 11/24/2013-12/15/2013.
