Warriors Get Off to Hot Start Through First Five Games
At 4-1, the Warrior baseball team has gotten off to a hot start this seasopn. While pitching appeared to be the clear strength of the team heading into the year, the offense has produyced as well, putting up 10 or more runs in four of the first five games. The lone loss came to Whitman (3-2) in a 7-6 defeat, which was still an improvement on last season after the Warriors got no-hit by Whitman’s Michael Flack (’12).
The team is well-rounded, as the offense has come around and the pitching staff has piutched multiple shutouts and allowed one run or less in three games. Despite a minor injury to #1-pitcher junior Matt Chanin,, the Warriors have still looked sharp.
“It’s been a very good year for us,” said senior pitcher Patrick Kemper. “Both our offense and defense have been equally good, and we have a lot of guys that can get the job done on both sides of the ball.”
The road ahead looks manageable, as four of the next five opponent have sub-.500 records. the warriors have a geat chance to push their record to as high as 90-1 down this stretch, as well as to build up their conference record in games against Blair (April 11), Magruder (April 13), Paint Branch (April 18) and Blake (April 20). Putting together a good series of games would give the Warriors some breathing room as they face smioe tougher competition in the final weeks of the season.
