Maria’s Declassified Twin Survival Guide
by Maria Claudia Garcia-Rada ’13
Reading about twins in The Warrior’s Feature section, got me to realize how much I appreciate having a twin. Some people think there are more negatives than positives to being a twin, but I’m here to tell you all the pleasures of having a twin.
- Being a twin has some perks, one being that you and your sibling look alike, or people “think” you look alike. So when it’s one of those days and you don’t feel like studying for a math and history test, use this to your advantage. You and your twin can easy divide up the studying and only take one test. So what happens if you and your twin don’t look alike? Simple: have your twin walk into your class and if the teacher says “nice try,” you accuse them of not knowing who you are. This works especially well if it’s close to second semester and you say “you STILL don’t know which twin I am?” It really makes teachers feel guilty and dumb.
- When you’re in trouble, blame your twin. Don’t even try to come up with some super long, unrealistic excuse for whatever you did to get in trouble. It’s pointless because you can easily say it was your twin’s fault, instead. Then you’re off the hook and now your twin is going to be grounded for the weekend instead of you.
- Make sure you have two birthday parties. Two parties equals double the presents. If you guys have different friends, don’t worry. You’re twin’s friends will feel guilty for not getting you anything, while everyone else there has. Note: In order for this to work, the invites MUST have both of your names.
- Never ever wear the same outfit as your sister. It’s cute when 5 year old twins match, but once you exit elementary school it’s not so adorable anymore. Remember that you are your own person, so show some individuality!
- Making new friends is easy when you’re a twin. People automatically want to be friends with you because they will gain not one but two friends at once. Not to mention, people are so amused at the fact that you are twin they will instantly want to befriend you.
Remember what they taught you in elementary school; sharing is caring. Don’t waste so much money on clothes! You and your twin can easily share some of each other’s clothes, which mean you can have way more outfits while spending less
