Boys Basketball Gets Back on Track
by Andrew Wasik ’13
Just like that the Warriors basketball team is back on track after winning their third game in a row, making a statement over Springbrook 51-42 on January 8. The team had fallen too 4-4 after losing to Kennedy 48-46 on December 27, but played with a new found energy and team work against an undefeated Paint Branch team winning 55-52 in a strong outing. This win showed just how good the Warriors can be when they are at their best and they followed up the game with another win at home against Blair 54-46 on January 4.
The team then had to face one of their toughest challenges of the year at home against Springbrook, a team who had beaten the Magruder Colonels, a team heavily favored to go back to states this year, 59-55 earlier in the season.
The Warriors now sit at the top of the 4A east with a 4-1 conference record being led by senior captains Brandon Loiacano, leading the team with 12.9 ppg and Joey DeStefano, with 12.3 ppg.
The team plays next on Friday, January 11 at Blake in a tough game, hoping to keep their winning streak alive.
