by Kyle Melnick ’14
The Warriors started the indoor season competing at MCPS Meet #1. The Lady Warriors jumped out to an impressive start. Sophomore Lauren Woods led the girls’ team, placing second in both the 55m and 300m dash. Freshman Amanda Hayes-Puttfarcken proved her young talent by finishing fourth place in the 1600m. On the boys’ team, seniors Andrew Sarver and Gerard Bowes placed 6th and 9th place in the long jump, respectively.
The Warriors traveled to their first major invitational meet of the season at Dickinson College on December 15. Woods showcased her speed again, placing first in both the 55m and 200m dash. Hayes-Puttfarcken also proved herself once more, finishing sixth in the 1600m. She was the top freshman finisher in the race. Junior Elijah Spottswood led the boys’ squad with an eighth place finish in the 55m dash. “We have great runners, jumpers and throwers this year on the girls’ side. The encouragement and support from the senior leaders has helped me develop as a runner,” said Hayes-Puttfarcken.
