Historic Field Hockey Season Comes To Sudden Halt
by Jenni Kenel ’14
The Lady Warriors field hockey team went into the second round of the state playoffs with a 15-0 record; no other Sherwood team has ever been able to do so. They played Whitman on Wednesday, October 31, and ended their playoff run with a 3-1 loss.
The Lady Warriors leave the season with a No. 1-ranking by the Gazette and No. 8-ranking by the Washington Post. They also ended the season with the two top scorers in the Metropolitan area. “With the guidance of captain [senior] Matta Sannoh, the team kept a ‘bring it on’ attitude the whole season and will be remembered as the field hockey team that made history,” said coach Amy Morse.
Despite this season’s unfortunate end, this Warriors team is a young one, and will return several key pieces as they look to build on this success next year.
