After a poor start to the season, the girls’ basketball team has won 5 of their last 7 games to reach a 6-4 record including a win against rival Magruder. Seniors Katie Ruth and Alia Smith lead the team in scoring, Ruth with 135 points and Smith with 118 points. Coach Sandi Williams feels that the team is doing well and says that, “the team has pretty good chemistry on the court and they have the tools to do very well in post season play.” As the team prepares for the upcoming game against Blair on Friday, Coach Williams said, “Like any game win or lose – we watch film footage from the game to see good things that we need to continue and things that need work.”

An injured Sherwood Warriors team (7-2) fell to Paint Branch (8-1) on Tuesday. Juniors Jordan Johnson, Brandon Loiacono and Joey DeStefano were all out of the game against the Panthers. Senior Scott Bolen led the Warriors with 25 points while sophomore Michael Crooks made his first varsity start ever and put up 7 points. Crooks will spend the rest of his season as a member of the varsity team coming off the bench as a point guard. The Warriors now have their minds set on Friday where they are on the Blair Blazers (4-5) home court. After that game the Warriors will pay a visit to the Springbrook Blue Devils (7-2) on February 10.
