The NBA Returns

by Andrew Wasik ’13

Upon checking Sports Center one day I found myself physically jumping for joy, I found out that it was over. The NBA lockout was over after one hundred and forty nine days. To my pleasant surprise I found that there would be a shortened sixty-six game season beginning on Christmas day.

After canceling the entire preseason and the first 6 weeks of the NBA season because of the debate over the budget, players and owners lost millions of dollars.

Meanwhile the NBA left millions of fans with nothing to do now that the players were left having to play flag football or make dumb Youtube videos. But its back, the flag football is over and the question now is will the NBA be able to get back all of its fans? I refuse to believe that I am the only diehard fan that spent hours dreaming that the season was starting and Kevin Durant was dropping three pointers again. If fans are like me and checked the Internet everyday too see if the lockout was over I think the answer is yes the fans will come back more excited then ever.

With the now shortened season it is more important that teams start their season with a winning streak because it will be difficult to catch up in time for playoffs. There is no time this season for rookies to get adjusted or for players to get acquainted with each other they have to get right into basketball.

Over time the players and owners will get back their money and the NBA will get back its fans.
