Ultimate Frisbee is just as Fun as it Sounds

Ultimate Frisbee is beginning to make its mark here at Sherwood. For those who don’t know, Ultimate Frisbee is like flag football, but with a Frisbee instead of a football; there’s a throw off in the place of a kick off; when a player catches the Frisbee you are allowed three steps in any direction, and after those three steps, you must pass or throw the Frisbee.
For the past couple of years, a group of students have been holding daily games of Ultimate Frisbee at lunch. Every school day, rain or shine, seniors like Tim Spillman and Brett Mills are out on the practice field chucking the Frisbee all the way down the field to another player to score. Over the past couple of years, the Frisbee games have accumulated enough players to hold games with teams of 6-12 people on any given day.
Recently, an official Ultimate Frisbee club was formed at Sherwood, and rumors of a match between the official club and those who play on the practice field, are surfacing. Whether this match will happen is still up in the air, but even now, players in the practice field group are already showing confidence.
Michael Wagner ’12, one of the players from the practice field group, said “I’ve been to one of the clubs meeting and we [practice field Frisbee group] would crush the club team.” No comment has been recorded by any members of the official club. Maybe in the near future, the clash of these two impressive teams will make its mark on the practice field.
