Stop the Act and Get in the Studio

Traditional type cast Michael Cera has been touring with Mister Heavenly. Maybe it's the change he needs.

Since December of last, type cast superstar Michael Cera has been touring with Sub Pop’s super group Mister Heavenly, which consist of Islands frontman Nick Thorburn (guitarist/vocals), Man Man’s Honus Honus (keyboardist/vocals) and Modest Mouses’ Joe Plummer (drums). And all I have to say is, Cera please take a brief hiatus from acting and please focus on Mister Heavenly instead. With the recent digital release of the EP ‘Mister Heavenly” I feel like if Cera has the musical ability he will be able to break the typecast that haunts his name.

Mister Heavenly has a very unique sound. They are lead by rough vocals of Honus and also the smooth vocals of Thorburn which blend perfectly to create this unique sound. There’s also their surfer-esque feel to their music, especially in their song “Pineapple Girl” which fits perfectly with the members from Islands and Modest Mouse.

Since recently watching one of their shows in Portland (one of Cera’s first live performances) looking at Cera  rocking out with his hexagonal bass, Cera might have found a new calling, and if he can get further with the band, he may be able to leave acting for a while, which is a good thing for everyone.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Michael Cera in the hit TV show “Arrested Development” (which gave him his awkwardness as a teenager whose in love with his cousin) and in the movies “Superbad” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” but after a while it gets a little old. Seeing him in the same movie over and over again just gets repetitive, but now seeing him as the bassist in Mister Heavenly has inspired new hope that Michael Cera may break his type cast and try something new.
