Sherwood Off to a Solid Start

By Tyler Jones ’15

The Warriors opened their season against a tough Our Lady of Good Counsel team. The Warriors pitching rotation walked numerous batters, and the Falcons capitalized by outscoring the Warriors 7-4 for the win. Senior outfielder Neven Sussman led the offensive charge by going two for three at the plate, and also hit a solo homerun in the 2nd inning.  After suffering a tough loss at home, the Warriors hit the road looking to earn a victory against Wootton.

The Warriors hauled in their first win of the season against non-conference opponent Wootton, beating them by a score of 11-10. Sophomore infielder John Ervin led all batting for the Warriors with two hits, one RBI (run batted in), and scoring two runs. After having the lead for a majority of the game the Warriors gave up 6 runs to Wootton, tying the game at 8 all. However, in the last inning the Warriors managed to score 3 more runs to seal the victory. Warriors continue their winning streak defeating Einstein by a score of 3-0. Senior pitcher Brian Hughes stepped up by leading all pitchers with five strikeouts and allowing just one hit. Senior first baseman Thomas St. Laurent was the unsung hero of the game, driving in two of the team’s three runs despite the fact he didn’t get on base himself.

Despite a loss in their home-opener, the Warriors have regained their mojo and are looking to have a stellar season this spring. “We are playing well and growing together as a team.”, said senior outfielder Neven Sussman. Sherwood is establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the 4A East region.
