In their 33-6 victory over the Gaithersburg Trojans, the Warriors struggled early to move the ball downfield and develop a running attack. However, as the first quarter rolled on, senior quarterback Neven Sussman’s 20-yard run gave the Warriors a one touchdown advantage. Gaithersburg answered with a 55-yard rushing touchdown up the middle, but the game was one-sided from there on out.

Sussman continued to display his dual-threat ability as the game progressed, rushing for another touchdown and throwing two more to senior receivers Jacob Weiss and Calvin Bacon. Sophomore running back Travis Levy also scored on an 8-yard run.

Another key performer for the Warriors was junior receiver Marcus Simms, who hauled in 227 of Sussman’s 284 passing yards. Simms contributed a number of big passing plays down the field. “I just kept making plays and kept the game moving to kill time,” said Simms.

The Warriors’ defensive performance was just as notable as their offensive one. Holding Gaithersburg to just 6 points required a full team effort, according to Coach Chris Grier. “Everybody did their job, there was no real superstar … When 11 guys play hard and get to the football, good things can happen,” said Grier in an interview with the Gazette. With strong execution on both sides of the ball, Friday’s game went a long way toward “avenging” last season’s loss to Gaithersburg and “bringing Sherwood back as a perennial power.”
