Senior pitcher/first baseman Matt Chanin announced on his Twitter page this afternoon that he has committed to play Division 1 college baseball at UMBC in Baltimore. Chanin will be pitching, but says he’ll also have an opportunity to play two-way.

“[Committing to UMBC] was a mixture of excitement and relief,” said Chanin. “Knowing all my hard work has finally paid off and that I’ve got a great college to look forward to.”

Chanin’s been a key contributor to the Warriors’ pitching rotation since he joined the team his sophomore year, and he’s also served as one of the team’s primary sources of power from the batter’s box.

“The school is a really good fit for me,” said Chanin. “I think I will be able to be an asset to the team.”

After reaching the playoffs each of his first two varsity seasons, playing in a state semi-final against Northwest his sophomore year, Chanin will look to carry the Warriors back into the postseason this year when the season starts in March.
