Divisionals and Metros Go Swimmingly
by Tom Lee ’14
The past two weeks have been exciting for the boys and girls swim and dive teams. At the Division II championships on February 2 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Swim Center, the dive team finished first with senior Captain Summer White and sophomore Caroline Graves placing finished third and fourth respectively. Seniors Aaron Katz and Connor Martin also helped contribute valuable points which eventually sealed the win for the dive team. The girls’ swim team finished first while the boys finished fifth. The girls had over 140 points over the second place finisher B-CC as they further cemented their dominance over the rest of the division. The boys had less luck, but seniors Andrew Braker, Evan Schwartz, and Peyton Brailsford recorded impressive times in the 50-yard freestyle.
At Metros, held on Feburary 10 at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center, the girls performed above expectations and placed third out of all the schools in the DC and Maryland area. The 400-yard freestyle relay placed second with an All-American time. The 200-yard medley broke the old school record and was enough for a third place finish. Senior Anna Kolanowski swam to second place in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with All-American and school record-breaking times in both events. Morgan Hill had a spectacular fifth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly being the only freshman in the A-final. Senior Megan Conrad also placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke dropping a sizable amount of two seconds from last year. Overall it was a highly succesful meet with plenty of best times and impressive finishes. Next week will be Regionals at the Largo Swim and Track Center at 8 a.m.
