Warriors Sweep Arundel For Third Straight Championship
by Michael Natelli ’14
The Lady Warriors swept the Anne Arundel Wildcats in three sets on Monday to clinch the 4A championship for the third consecutive year. This marks the second straight year the Warriors faced the Wildcats in the battle for the title, and also marks the second straight year in which the Warriors didn’t surrender a set in the process.
The sweep was not without it’s challenges, including a first set in which the Wildcats forced extra points before ultimately yielding the set to the Warriors (27-25). However, it quickly became apparent as to who was the dominant team in the second set, as the Lady Warriors took the set by double digits (25-14).
It was only fitting that this senior class went out in such dominant fashion. The class of 2012, led by outside hitter Alex Holston, capped off a three-year dynasty that already saw two state titles with a 2012 season that saw just three lost-sets. The class included outside hitters Holston, Dominique Parker and Megan Brady, defensive specialists Christy Memphin and Katie Russell as well as setter Maddie Moyer. Holston, the ninth-ranked recruit in the country, will be a setter at the University of Florida next season.
