On November 18, 19 and 20 the club CAST, which stands for Creating Awesome Sherwood Theatre, launched “Oklahoma” as its annual fall musical. Written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, the musical is set in 1906 and centers around the love between a young cowboy named Curly, played by sophomore Connor Martin, and a farm girl named Laurey, played by senior Simone Brown.

The couple faces turbulence when Laurey’s neighbor, Judd (freshman Nick Cameron) expresses his love for Laurey and even promises to fight Curly over her. The startling climax proves to be the battle between these two men, who both love Laurey dearly.lence when Laurey’s neighbor, Judd (freshman Nick Cameron) expresses his love for Laurey and even promises to fight Curly over her. A second romance is between Ado Annie (senior Leanne Frenkel) and Will Parker (senior Jake Fullmer) who love each other but must overcome resistance from Annie’s family and her own infedility. Their struggles to be together prompted many laughs and provided a welcomed light-hearted feel.

The production included a full orchestra directed by band teacher Alex Silverbook, stage props, light and sound teams, and an ensemble supporting lead roles.

“It was a great experience,” said student choreographer, senior Molly Horak. “The people are a lot of fun and Oklahoma is a great show. It was a lot of fun, and also a lot of work.”
