After opening the season with two losses, the girl’s basketball team has won three straight games including a 45-33 win over rival, Magruder. Seniors Alia Smith and Katie Ruth have played big roles in the team’s recent success. Smith had 29 points and 9 rebounds in the team’s 64-61 overtime win over Clarksburg and put up a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Magruder. Ruth has been putting up solid numbers throughout the season including 24 points and 14 rebounds in a 60-51 loss against Seneca Valley, 20 points and 17 rebounds in the team’s win against Clarksburg and 12 points and 11 rebounds in a 37-28 win over Watkins Mill. The girl’s next game is against Kennedy at home on Wednesday, December 21 as the girls hope to extend their winning streak to 4 games.

The Sherwood Warriors have defeated the Kennedy Cavaliers by a score of 65-57. Scott Bolen scored 22 points in the 3rd quarter and ended up with 33 overall. The Warriors have improved their record to 5-1 while the Cavaliers have dropped to 4-3.
The Warriors have come back from there loss to Magruder last Friday 59-76. The Colonels could not miss from the 3 point line and ended up going 8-11 from the 3 point line in the first quarter alone. Charlie Rogers was the only answer for the Magruder trio of Nick Griffin, Garland Owens and Justin Witmer. Rogers led the Warriors with 31 points.
The Warriors started strong in the season opener against Seneca Valley where seniors Scott Bolen and Charlie Rogers combined for 63 points to propel Sherwood ahead. On December 9th the Warriors played against a very good Churchill team and ended up winning in overtime by 3 points. Sherwood dominated Watkins Mill three days later 79-50. The second of three matches that week ended with Sherwood beating Clarksburg 71-59 in the worst officiated game I have ever seen. The referees called multiple fouls and travels that just were not there. But towards the end Sherwood pulled ahead and got the win off a surprisingly competitive Clarksburg. At the end of the week the Warriors ended up disappointed by the loss to Magruder and set their sights ahead against Kennedy which was the last game before winter break.
The Warriors have a holiday basketball tournament at Sherwood on December 27th and 28th before they move to their next game at Paint Branch January 3rd.
