T.V. Production Plans Return Soon

Sherwood has re-introduced T.V. Production to the school’s expanding repertoire of classes for the 2026-2027 school year. Run by theatre and English teacher Julian Lazarus, the class is expected to be a replica of the morning announcements, featuring a live broadcast run entirely by students. Students enrolled in the elective partake in a variety of tasks throughout the studio, from being on air to controlling the production behind the scenes. Sherwood previously had a production called Warrior Wake Up Live up until 2019, and Lazarus comes with the experience of previously having introduced the class at Wootton.
Live broadcasts aren’t yet achievable this quarter, as the T.V. studio needs to be rebuilt from its previous state. Old, unusable equipment and the usage of the room as a large miscellaneous storage space during the broadcast’s hiatus are the main reasons for the delay.
“The hope is that we are able to go live sometime in the 2nd quarter,” said Lazarus. “Even that is a push as we are waiting on new equipment, fixing what we have, and learning to do the different jobs needed to produce the news.¨
Once the show is up and running, students and staff should expect to see and hear a wide variety of segments covering various topics such as sports, weather, school-wide events, and the possibility of special segments like Ask The Principal.
“Much of this will depend on how efficient our TV class is and how many people sign up in the future as each of these things take skills and manpower to achieve,” said Lazarus about short- and long-term plans. After one year, Lazarus hopes to include a T.V Production 1 and T.V Production 2 class, a similar format that is used in Yearbook to ensure quality work.
After two months of the class, students displayed optimism and excitement for the production’s future. “Other students should join the class because it teaches them teamwork, coordination, and patience, while also learning how [broadcasts] are made,” said senior Jason Ni. Many schools across Maryland proudly house prestigious broadcasting teams, and Sherwood hopes to find themselves in that group within the next few years.
