Students Will Get a Longer Spring Break Next Year

by Christianna Tran ‘20

Montgomery County’s Board of Education has decided on a longer spring break for the 2019-2020 school year. Previously the board could not decide on two possible scenario schedules for next year’s school calendar; scenario one called for a spring break to last from April 4 through April 13 while scenario two requested for a spring break lasting from April 8 through April 13.

However, with the help of a survey sent to families and staff, the board has finally made the decision to use scenario one which allows for a longer, ten-day spring break. This decision lengthens spring break drastically from the current school year’s spring break that only lasts only from April 17 through April 22.

The decided calendar also calls for school to start on September 3, 2019 and end on June 15, 2020. Other holidays and breaks for next year will remain similar to this year’s calendar. Now that the calendar has been established, the board is now working on finalizing the employee work year. More information about the 2019-2020 calendar can be found on the MCPS website.
