Wish We Still Had Google Classroom

With the start of the 2020-2021 school year occurring virtually, teachers have had to adapt their teaching to the land of the Internet. This meant MCPS Administration had to come up with an infrastructure for teachers to use to keep students’ classes consistent and all in one place. They settled on the use of Synergy for grades and MyMCPS Classroom for instruction, revoking the option teachers have had in the past of choosing between MyMCPS Classroom and Google Classroom.

MyMCPS Classroom, a service of the Canvas platform used by many other school districts and colleges, is an education infrastructure many students and teachers were already familiar with, as some MCPS teachers chose to use it to post lessons and assignments. However, many students and teachers preferred a different infrastructure, Google Classroom. Google Classroom is very user-friendly and assignments were laid out in a very clear, and even fun, way. Whereas, trying to find quizzes and assignments on MyMCPS Classroom has proven to be quite difficult sometimes. This led to many students preferring Google Classroom to the other option. Not to mention, Google Classroom was released in August of 2014, meaning many students and educators had much more experience with it than the MyMCPS option which has been around for about three years. In the end, I and many of my peers were disappointed by the news that MyMCPS Classroom would be replacing Google Classroom officially.
