Britton Named Acting Principal for Upcoming School Year

by Jenna Bloom ‘21

Tim Britton, who has been an assistant principal at Sherwood for the past 3 years, will serve as the acting principal for the 2020-2021 school year. The June 2 announcement came a week after Eric Minus stepped down as principal to take an executive role in Baltimore County Public Schools. These changes to the Sherwood administrative team come at a particularly difficult time after the death of Assistant Principal Dr. Kathlyn Carroll on June 24. Carroll worked at Sherwood for nearly a decade, as an integral part of the administration.

Britton plans to continue Minus’ 5 Pillars, as well as the expectation that “excellence is our only option.” Britton explained in his letter the importance of working towards the school motto of One Sherwood “as we continue to elevate our work of courageous conversations around race and equitable teaching practices, providing opportunities for all students to access courses in honors and advanced placement.”

Britton also has been an assistant principal at Bethesda-Chevy Chase and Northwest High Schools. This will be his 27th year as a teacher and administrator for MCPS.
