Dispatch: Adjusting to the New Reality

by Devon Goldstein ’21

Today is Day 20 of being quarantined inside my house. My life has shifted a lot over the past three weeks. There are good changes and bad changes, and I am trying to adjust to all the challenges that come my way during this difficult time.

I enjoy getting to sleep-in later than normal and taking my time to do certain tasks my parents have me doing throughout the day. Although I have those peaceful aspects of being quarantined, I do not like constantly being around the same people every minute of every day.

Having some alone time is very important to me. I have started keeping a journal where I write what I do each day and reflect on what has been going on for the past few weeks. I also started watching “Love is Blind” on Netflix to occupy my time when I am bored.

Being able to go on my phone and computer to do work for school and communicate with my friends is something I like a lot. I miss seeing all my friends everyday at school and after school. It has been a big adjustment not seeing everyone, but having technology to talk to my friends is very nice and helpful.

It has been a big adjustment moving from going to school everyday to online school and being quarantined in my house, but I am slowly getting more used to it. I am excited for the day everything goes back to “normal” and we are allowed to be with our friends and teachers again.
