The 4A West Indoor Regional Championships took place on Thursday, February 6, at the Baltimore Armory. With an unusual surface choice of the track and a highly competitive field, Sherwood raced well but still placed 13th and 14th out of 16 teams for the boys and girls, respectively. Senior Sean Enright and sophomore Katie Kaneko both placed in the top four of their events, qualifying for the state meet.

Enright ran 10:11.12 in the 3200 meter run, placing fourth, and Kaneko ran 1:23.89 in the 500 meter dash, to finish third. Three other Sherwood students placed in the top eight in Shot Put: Josh Tagliere in 6th with a personal record of 40 feet and six inches, Jacob Kamara in 8th, and Ayana Antoine in 6th in the girls’ event with a personal record of 29 feet and four inches. The Sherwood relay teams were not able to compete to their fullest due to multiple injuries and other state potential qualifiers did not compete for the same reason. Enright and Kaneko will compete at the MPSSAA 4A State Championships on Tuesday, February 18 at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex.
