After Winning Division Title Sherwood Looks to Continue in Playoffs

Last Tuesday, Sherwood Boys soccer took down the Montgomery Blair Blazers to capture their 3rd 4A East Division title in the last 4 years. After a chippy first half, riddled with foul calls on both sides, the game remained scoreless.

“It was a pretty rough half. There was a high level of physicality and it took a bit of getting used to. But I knew we would be able to bounce back in the second half,” said junior winger Hunter Bredow.  About 10 minutes into the second half, another foul was called, giving Sherwood a free kick. On the ensuing kick, the Blair goalie missed an easy save off of a Sherwood cross. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead. A couple minutes later, senior forward Jason Turner expanded their lead to a commanding 2-0 after scoring a brilliant goal on a beautiful shot.

Sherwood will now have a first-round bye in the upcoming playoffs. “I’m really looking forward to playing the best of the best. I think we can go out there and compete with anybody, and I’m excited to see what the postseason has for us. I hope that we get the chance to play Northwood once again and take revenge for last year,” said Turner.

Sherwood kept on their recent hot streak with a 1-0 win over the Paint Branch Panthers. This gave them another win, making it 8 on the season, compared to their only 2 losses against Wooton and River Hill. The Warriors may have another chance to take down some of their 4A East rivals like Blair or Paint Branch once again in the playoffs.
