Sherwood Keeps Rolling Through Homecoming

After a dismal 22-21 loss to Blake in the home opener, Sherwood has done more than just turn their season around. The Warriors believed they would get to the playoffs but they did the one thing that will always take down good football team: overconfidence aka being too cocky. “We got cocky, we thought we were a lot stronger and better than we actually were,” said starting quarterback Sean Yamada.

Then the team clicked. The Warriors won their next three games and outscored their opponents 138-6. In week 3 and 5, Sherwood gave up no points, beating Northwood, 55-0 and Kennedy, 56-0. In week 4, the Warriors got their rematch versus Howard and unlike the playoffs two years ago, Sherwood went home a win, 27-6.

Defense has been the obvious strength of this team so far, but the offense has consistently been getting more dangerous by the week. The weapons on offense were already in place but as a unit have just started to play well together. The run game behind seniors Toy Trice and Dylan Grant has been dominant. Senior Eddie Dumas and junior wide receiver Jalen Clyatt have been great and alongside Yamada, the Warriors came into homecoming rolling.

Blair came into the game losing their past two games and early into the game, the Blazers showed they weren’t gonna stop the bleeding. Sherwood opened with a rushing attack that led the Warriors to a 21-0 lead by the time the first quarter had ended. Blair didn’t do anything significant the rest of the way, finishing out the game giving up another 20 points, losing 41-0. Blair fell to 3-3 while Sherwood advanced to 5-1.
