Sherwood Sends Two Athletes to States

by Noah Corman ’19

The 4A West Indoor Regional Championships took place on Thursday, February 7, at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex. Senior Sofia Grossman qualified for states, placing 5th in the 55 meter hurdles and 4th in high jump. Junior Sean Enright also qualified, finishing 9th in the 3,200 meter. Other notable performances include sophomore Olivia Miller who finished 9th in the 800 meter, senior Alexa Donaldson who finished 9th in the 3,200 meter, and junior Eddie Dumas who finished 10th in the 55 meter. These athletes did not achieve the time or place standards, however.

At this point in the season, non-varsity athletes often stop training, reducing the team to about 20 people. Due to the general lack of available athletes and a disqualification, none of Sherwood’s five relays finished in the top half of their respective events. Also, potential states qualifier in the 55 meter hurdles Hailu Daniel suffered an injury in the week leading up to the meet and could not race. Grossman and Enright will compete at the MPSSAA 4A State Championships at the same venue on Tuesday, February 19.
