The boys’ varsity basketball team won the 4A North Regional division. After they closed the season by going 3-1 to bring their record to 14-8. Their first playoff game will be held on Monday, February 29. The Warriors earned a first round bye and will play Springbrook.

“This year’s team has the potential to go deep in the playoffs and win the region if they continue to close out possessions with quality rebounding and shoot a good percentage from the free throw line,” said Coach Timothy Gilchrist.

The Warriors concluded the season strong with the help of senior captain Chris West’s aggressive mentality. He led the team to a 58-49 victory against Magruder, often taking the ball coast to coast and attacking the basket. He finished with 12 points, and senior captain Tyrese Williams led the way with 17 points. The Warriors also beat Walter Johnson by a score of 74-61 with the help of sophomore Davis Long leading the pack with multiple three-pointers. Senior Shawn Bliss, West and Williams also had major contributions. The Warriors emerged victorious against Wootton by a score of 80-73. The only bump in the road was against Clarksburg, losing by a score of 93-79.

Throughout the season, Bliss, West and Williams have been consistent players. “Their senior leadership really drives the bus and the rest of the team is comfortable since they have been in big games and pressure situations in the past,” said Gilchrist. The Warriors look for this leadership to help the team advance.
