Boys’ Basketball Redeems Themselves After First Loss

By Amanda Allen ’17

The boys’ varsity basketball team began their season on December 4 with a tough loss against Good Counsel by a score of 58 to 31. The Warriors bounced back quickly, however, and have been on a three-game winning streak after beating Damascus 65-49, Watkins Mill 61-50  and Seneca Valley 67-59.

Coach Timothy Gilchrist explained to countysportszone.com that the team has been working well together and have gotten everyone involved by sharing the ball. “I expect to see a lot of different names in the box scores since our team is very selfless and does a good job of finding the hot hand, and making the extra pass. It’s refreshing to see the team care about the whole versus the individual,” said Gilchrist

When someone is having a good night, the team finds that person. This was evident when senior captain Tyrese Williams scored a team high 33 points against Watkins Mill. After that victory, the Warriors are looking towards the future. Williams explained their hopeful plans, “I expect us to at least win the division titles. I also think we can go far in the playoffs as well,” said Williams.

Senior captain Chris West has been successful in controlling the tempo so far as point guard, and sophomore Davis Long is tied with Williams with an average of 12.5 points per game.

Looking ahead, the Warriors hope to a be successful in the rematch with Springbrook, the team which beat Sherwood in the playoffs last year. The Warriors have displayed powerful performances to begin this season, and plan to continue this tonight against the Churchill Bulldogs at Churchill.
