Indoor Track Readies for States after Regionals

Indoor Track athletes competed in the 4A West Regional Meet on Thursday, February 5. The top four finishers in each event qualified for the state meet.

Senior Rufus Junior Settles placed 2nd in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.56 seconds. Settles finished 3rd in the 300 meter dash with a time of 36.15 seconds.

Senior Tiffany Woods, with a time of 1:20.02, placed 2nd in the 500 meter, qualifying for the state meet. Additionally, seniors Osajele Ikheloa and Dotun Oseni-Adegbite placed 3rd and 4th in the shot put.

The girls’ 4×200 meter relay of Tiffany Woods, Lauren Woods, Molly Hierholzer and Alyssa Moran placed 4th with an impressing 1:50.01. The same quartet later placed 2nd in the 4×400 meter relay, running a 4:05.79.

We have really focused on fast turnover and getting out fast,says senior Molly Hierholzer. Our relays have worked very hard and put in the work early in the season so it’s paying off now. It’s exciting doing so well; all our drive and determination is getting us places.

Junior Maddie Peloff also qualified for the state meet in the 3200 meter finishing with a time of 11:49.42. Peloff finished the event with an impressive finish, beating the state qualifying time by five seconds.

Athletes who qualified for the states will compete on Tuesday, February 17 at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Hyattsville in the Maryland 4A State Championship meet.
