The track team competed in the Montgomery County Championship this past Wednesday at Walter Johnson.  Numerous athletes of both genders put forth strong performances.

On the girls’ side, junior Tiffany Woods finished fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.52 seconds, while twin sister Lauren took fifth in the 200 meter dash at 25.85 seconds.  In addition, sophomores Amanda Hayes-Puttfarcken and Madeline Peloff finished tenth in the 1600 meter run (5:29) and seventh in the 3200 meter run (11:32), respectively.  Senior Ameerat Olatunde placed fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus throw.  The girls’ 4×400 meter relay also ran well, finishing fifth out of sixteen teams.

On the boys’ side, senior Brian Maung had the best finish, taking eighth in the discus with a throw of 116 feet.  Junior Jefferson Ruiz also performed well with a 1600 meter time of 4:45, and fellow junior Rufus Settles ran the 400 meter dash in 52.96 seconds.  It should also be noted that senior Jarrett Harman competed in running, jumping and hurdling events, finishing respectably in all three.

The girls’ team placed tenth out of twenty-three teams, while the boys’ team placed twenty-first.  The track team will host the regional meet May 17.
