Baseball Begins Postseason Stretch

By Allie Pino ’15

Throughout the 2014 season, the varsity baseball team has put up a good fight. Bouncing back from a couple of losses, the team has piled up some impressive wins.

On April 30, the team played hard, but lost a close one against Damascus by a score of 4-3. However, on May 3 and May 5, the Warriors came out on top, beating Blair 9-3, and winning their final game 6-1 against Quince Orchard. The Warriors’ overall record was 11-6.

The team’s pitching staff definitely had their work cut out for them, having to give all they had each and every game. In some of their games, hitters had trouble making contact with the ball, creating their biggest loss of the season against Good Counsel 8-0.  In most other games, they had more success as the team figured out how to put players in scoring positions, leading to their multiple victories.

The Warriors play their first playoff game against Howard on Monday, May 12 at 4 p.m. at Sherwood after a bye on Friday. Senior Brian Reich will be the likely starting pitcher for their first. If the players can pull off a win against Howard, their next game will be against Paint Branch.
