Boys’ Lacrosse Strives for Regional Title

The boys’ lacrosse team is striving to build off last year’s success of making it to the Regional Semi-Finals and go even further. The team, which went 9-4 last season, begins this season on Friday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at Sherwood against Blake.

Coach Chip Steel returns with new assistant coach Ryan Burnsky, a Sherwood graduate and former lacrosse player. “Our expectations are that we will practice with maximum effort and focus, compete in every contest, work to be our best when playoffs come around and challenge for the Region Championship,” said Steel.

Key players are returning senior goalie William Wykoff and returning senior midfielder Michael Crooks. “Our team has the philosophy that everyone is a lacrosse player, not necessarily a position player,” said Steel.

This year the team looks to speed as a strength, as well as their mental and physical toughness to help them. Despite being one of the top teams in the county, “any game this season could be difficult – we won’t assume that any opponent is an easy win,” Steel said. He said that this year biggest rivals will be what he refers to as the traditional “W”s; (Wootton, Walter Johnson, Winston Churchill and Whitman), in addition to Quince Orchard and Good Counsel.
