Girls’ Basketball Starting Off Fresh

The girls’ basketball team have begun their season with a 4-1 winning record after a number of disappointing seasons. This improvement is partly attributed to a new coachafter several years.

“The season is going very well. We got a whole new coaching staff so it’s a brand new beginning. The team is very close to one another and we always bring positive energy everyday whether it’s in practice or a game,” said junior Nicole Stockinger. “When we give it all we got and come out strong, we are always succeeding and we are going to make it difficult for our opponents to beat us.”

The girls played Einstein on December 12, winning 59-15. The next night the Warriors traveled to B-CC and won 59-54. Most recently they beat Walter Johnson 61-47 on December 18. The only blemish on their record was a 46-39 loss to their rival Magruder on December 6.

“I love the team; they’re a great group of ladies and they’re working really hard to get better,” said coach Chris Campbell. “The Magruder game we did well in the first quarter but we had a poor second quarter. We could’ve easily beaten them. We had a great game against Einstein and a terrific win in overtime against B-CC. The whole team stepped up in the second half and [sophomore] Allie Thron is becoming to be a really aggressive player. Stockinger is the leading scorer on the team right now, and the whole team overall played really well.”
