Enrollment at an All-Time High in MCPS

This year was the highest enrollment of students for MCPS. There were more than 151,000 students expected to attend the district’s 202 schools this year, an increase of about 2,300 students from the 2012-2013 school year. Also, there was a significantly larger number of kindergartens this year, especially down county close to Washington D.C. than in other parts of the county, noted Principal Bill Gregory. This would mean that as the years go on high school enrollment is going to increase.

Gregory also noted that parents are looking at options for where to send their children, especially during a weaker economy when the price of private schools can be daunting. “I have talked to many parents that have shopped for many schools and have come to Sherwood High School to shop to see what types of programs we had, and it’s been nice that there have been people that have moved to the area because of the school,” said Gregory.
