Track & Field Wins Region

After a long night of dress-up and dancing the seniors of the Warrior’s Track and Field had to wake up early to compete in the 4A North Region Invitational, but they were able to prevail and were crowned champions.

The girls were led by the quartet of Lauren Woods, Ameerat Olatunde, Grace McDonald, and Tiffany Woods, who all scored 68 of their team’s 108 points. They defeated their nearest rival, Dulaney, by 21 points. Lauren Woods won the 100 meter dash, took second in the 200 Dash, and fifth in the 400. Olatunde is the regional champion in the Shot Put, and was runner-up in the discus. McDonald led off the Champion 3200 relay team; she was second in the 800, and joined Lauren, Tiffany and Karimat Afinnih to win the 1600 Relay.

The boys placed ninthwith 33 points in the 14 team field. They were led by Robel Kebede and Andrew Sarver. Kebede led the Sherwood contingent with fourth place finishes in the 1600 meter run, 800 meter run, and anchored the 4 x 800 relay team to fourth place. Sarver’s second place finish in the Triple Jump was the Warrior boy’s top individual placer.

In all, 15 Sherwood athletes will head to the Track and Field State Championship which will be held on Friday and Saturday at Morgan State University.
