Every Day 12/17

December 17:

I learned: irony is funny in an annoying way

I’m the type of person that gets off task really easily, so of course right when I get home have to have a snack and then watch some TV and so on before I can start my homework. So on this particular day, after I sat down with a snack in hand, I began to watch YouTube videos. Now, on YouTube, as you all may know, one thing leads to the next and all of a sudden I’m watching  a video of Ellen DeGeneres talking about the hilarious errors that autocorrect makes in a segment called Clumsy Thumbsy. They are so funny.

So, of course, that very same day, I had to experience my own troubles with autocorrect when texting my friend about what time we should Skype. It is really just a terrible irony that this would happen on the same day that I watched the Clumsy Tumbsy clips. And trust me, you do not want to have a clumsy thumb. It is just so frustrating! And really hard to explain what you were trying to say in that minute time frame you have before the person your texting sends you a really confused reply.

Anyways, here it is:

Friend:                                                                                     Me:

I’ll be on at 7 is that ok?                                                    Yep.

Sorry…                                                                                                No

Sorry no

God!!!!Stupid autocorrect!!!!

Wait what…                                                                I mean np

Obviously, my phone and I aren’t too compatible. I mean, is it that hard to ask for a simple “no problem”? It took me three tries! My life! Every single time it just had to change “np” to “no”. That isn’t the only time it has happened to me either. After getting my new iPhone this has happened to me a lot recently, even on things that can’t be autocorrected, like smiley faces. Those are a real stickler. (Yes, I said stickler.) I ever time I try to type one of those things I always hit the wrong parentheses and make it a frowny face with the full intent of trying to make it a smiley.

My friend even asked me why I just wouldn’t turn autocorrect off. And the truth is … I just can’t spell. It’s that simple. The only way I can get a correct spelling is having a squiggly red line underneath a word or just having autocorrect fix it automatically. Despite my love/hate relationship with autocorrect, I just can’t live without it. <3
