Former Sherwood student, 19-year-old David Oughton, and current 16-year-old junior Khadijah Hopkins were involved in a car accident on October 29. Another passenger in the car did not attend Sherwood. After skidding off the road and hitting a tree on Chandlee Mill Road, driver Oughton was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Hopkins and the other passenger were injured.

Hopkins, the front-seat passenger, was in critical condition when she was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma. She is now recovering and, according to her counselor Elizabeth Al-Atrash, hopes to return to school by the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
