Sherwood Reaches State Semifinals

By Ryan Deal ’16 The softball team keeps on cruising this postseason, as they have dominated Paint Branch, Howard and Perry Hall by a collective score of 36-1 en route to their fourth straight state semifinals appearance. Sherwood, the top seed in Section II of the 4A North side of the bracket, will take on Leonardtown, the top seed in the 4A East side of the bracket, on May 19 at 7 p.m. at Bachman Park to see who will move on to the finals.  The squad has been dominant offensively in the playoffs with their 35 hits and collective batting average of .473. Such has been the trend all season for the Warriors, with senior superstar Nicole Stockinger leading the way with 13 home runs for the year. On the mound junior Jamie Schmier has been lights out, allowing only one run through three games. Along the way, she has struck out 21 batters and walked nobody, proving herself to be the ace pitcher that a team needs to win a state championship.
