Playmakers Give Glimpse of Potential Dominance

By John Sutherland ’16

The Warriors’ starters only played in the first half of their opening night, 47-6 victory over BCC, but that was all they needed to strike fear into all of the rest of the county.

WR Marcus Simms and RB Travis Levy tore the BCC defenders to shreds, as the only thing that could stop them from running was the end zone. Simms had 100 yards and three touchdowns while Levy had 178 yards and two touchdowns. Keep in mind that this was with only playing in one half. Both used their speed to easily run past all of the defenders and run the length of the field for a long touchdown. On the offense’s first play of the game, Simms caught a slant pass and then sprinted past defenders for a 60-yard touchdown. Levy just simply ran outside of everyone as no one got close to touching him on his 72-yard touchdown run. The playmakers made a case for themselves as the most dominant duo in the county.

New starting QB Shawn Bliss showed little signs of nerves in his first start. The senior QB looked sharp and accurate on his throws. He did not face much of a test though as BCC failed to put any type of pressure on him. Since BCC could not handle Simms, Bliss targeted Simms on 5 of his 7 pass attempts. He’ll have to spread the ball around to other teammates against tougher opponents.

Sherwood will have their first away game against Clarksburg on September 11. Expect a tougher matchup for the Warriors as Clarksburg also won their first game with a 27-8 victory over Churchill.
