Indoor Track Posts Strong Results at County Championships

The indoor track season is coming to a close. On January 20 the Warriors competed at the County Championships held at the Prince George’s Sports Complex. With many strong finishes the boys’team placed 8th out of 22 teams, while the girls’team finished 7th.

The Warriors are using the time after the County meet to prepare for Regionals and two invitationals, the Last Track to Philly and Virginia Tech Invitationals.

“We’re trying to run a fast girls’4×4 [relay]; right now we’re ranked number 5 in the county, so we’re trying to push that up,”said Coach Dan Reeks.

The girls’4×400 relay was led by seniors Tiffany Woods and Molly Hierholzer, with Alyssa Moran and Lauren Woods. They placed second at Tuesday’s meet.

Junior Rachel Goldberg and senior Mageb Mofor placed in the girls’ 4kg shot put, posting 5th and 7th and throwing 29-09.25 and 27-10.25, respectively.

On the boys’ side, senior Rufus “Junior”Settles had excellent finishes in the 55 and 300 meter dashes, placing second in the 55 meter finals with apersonal best of 6.56 and 8th in the 300 meter with a 37.26.

Freshman Renaldo Smith had a strong showing in the long jump and tied for 11th in the finals, jumping 18-07.50. Additionally, seniors Osajele Ikheloa and Dotun Oseni-Adegbite posted top results in the 12lb shot put, placing 3rd and 5th, throwing 42-04.50 and 42-00.00.

Now the Warriors are preparing for a tough Regionals meet to be held on February 5 at the Price Georges Sports Complex, while the Last Track to Philly Invitational is January 24 at Georgetown Prep.
