Co-Ed Volleyball Starts Season with Win

By Lauren Cosca ’15

Sherwood’s co-ed volleyball team started the season with victory in their first game against Poolesville, last year’s MCPS champion, on Friday, March 20. Sherwood won three straight sets, 25-13, 25-11 and 25-9.

With junior and starting setter Ariella Rodriguez unable to play due to a volleyball tournament, junior Alex Greenbaum showed her ability to excel in playing the position. Both were on last season’s varsity girls’ volleyball squad. With help from Greenbaum, the team was able to work together and defeat Poolesville with ease. “This first game went really great. All the players, especially the new ones, really stepped up and played great. We executed very well and playing setter was a really fun leadership position” said Greenbaum.

The team strives to continue their winning record this week on Monday, March 23, at 5 pm at Sherwood against Clarksburg. With consistent plays while steadily working on their skills, the team aspires to once again navigate through the sets without any trouble.
