As First Games Approach, Warriors Look to Repeat

The 2014-15 softball season is officially under way for the Warriors. The team, which is returning back key players such as senior pitcher Jaimie Schimer, junior first baseman Kelly Bouma and junior outfielder Hanna Nalls, is looking to capture a fourth-straight softball state championship.

The squad began their season on March 23, defeating Good Counsel and Wootton en route to a 2-0 start. To defeat these two tough clubs, Sherwood needs to be at the very top of their game. “Jamie [Schimer] has been lights out on the mound so far and Nicole [Stockinger] has been great at the plate too. When we have great performances from them, everyone tends to step up their game and produce more,” said junior utility player Madi Marks.

The team then continued its early-season dominance, shutting out Einstein 18-0 on the back of a tremendous pitching performance by Schimer. “With a team like this, there are no [obstacles]; we have what it takes. We need to make sure we show up each game and are able to pull through in clutch situations,” said Coach Ashley Barber-Strunk.

The team has started off the season 4-0, outscoring their opponents an ungodly 61-2 in the process. Although it is a long season that is sure to present its fair share of obstacles, things sure are looking bright for this year’s squad.
