Senior Leo Corman, also known by some as Leon, is one of 16,000 students nation-wide to be a National Merit semi-finalist. In the fall of 2014, more than 1.5 million juniors took the PSAT to be entered into the National Merit Scholarship Competition. The winners of this competition receive a $2,500 scholarship and other various grants.

The next step in the competition for semi-finalists is to send in their academic records and résumés to apply to become one of the 15,000 finalists. Of these finalists, 8,000 students will win a National Merit scholarship and will have the chance to receive other corporate-sponsored and college-sponsored scholarships.

Corman plans to apply to become one of the 15,000 finalists. He hopes to attend Northeastern University or University of Maryland College Park.
